  • What?

It has been forever since I actually wrote on this blog. Let's see what I've missed in telling you. The last time I wrote was a week before Christmas. That's a long time. I know. I keep reading everyone else's blogs and wondering when I should write. Or I keep saying to myself, oh yeah I am going to write. Hehe.

    ::WHAT'S NEW::
+ I am still happy with Scott. I love it.
+ I went home for Christmas. I hadn't seen them since August.
+ Came out to my mom. It's been an emotional rollacoaster but it's going great.
    - Didn't come out to my dad. I am not really ready for it.
+ Spent a little time relaxing and talking with my dad though, it was good.
+ Received a card from Scott's mom that said "Thank you for making my son happy."
+ I spent my first New Year's Eve and Day with my best friend and lover.
+ I am finally getting my ass back into school. I am tired of doing entry level jobs. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but I feel that I can do so much better than what I am doing right now.
    + I started EyePlayDesign.
+ I have a couple of clients for site designs, t-shirts, etc.
    + I have been busy.
+ Going to try to do a little bit of drag. Haha. I know. People loved it on Halloween so I am going to see if I can do it.
+ I saw Shane and got some of my things back from him.
    - Lilly didn't remember who I was. I don't blame her it's been six months.
+ I joined a gym and have started to work out regularly.
    + I got a new phone! Yay!
+ Please send me your number to: patrick (at) patrickjervis.com
+ Saw Justin Timberlake in concert! Oh yeah! Oh yeah!
+ Bought a poster.. a t-shirt and some other memorabilia.
    - Missing all the people that I met when I first got to AZ.
    - Missing the people that have fallen out of touch with me and even when I call them or text them, they don't call or text me back.
+ Thinking of having an engagement party in February. Oh? Yeah!

I think that's about it. I look forward to hearing from some of you.

  • Pope Fires New Broadside At Gay Families

(Vatican City) Pope Benedict on Saturday reiterated his defense of the traditional family, saying real marriage can only be between a man and a woman.

Benedict's remarks to a Vatican tribunal were the latest by the pontiff on the issue as the Pope keeps up a campaign against unmarried couples and same-sex unions.

The Pope warned against what he said was a "cultural context marked by relativism" and against any views of marriage as merely a legal union "that human will could manipulate as it pleases, even depriving it of its heterosexual nature."

"Each marriage is certainly the fruit of free consent between man and woman," the Pope said in an audience at the Vatican marking the beginning of the judiciary year.

"The union occurs because of the design by God, who has created them male and female and gives them the power to unite those natural and complementary dimensions forever," he said.

The Pope went on to say the bond is indissoluble because "it is so in the design of creation."

The Vatican opposes divorce and other challenges to church doctrine that have become increasingly common in Europe and elsewhere.

It does allow annulment, a process by which the Church effectively declares that a marriage never took place, leaving faithful free to remarry and receive Communion.

In his remarks Saturday, the Pope appealed to the Roman Rota - the annulment-deciding tribunal - not to grant annulments too easily.

Circumstances for granting annulments include refusal by a husband or a wife to have children or the psychological incapability of one of the spouses to contract a valid marriage.

Benedict has condemned same-sex unions as anarchic "pseudo-matrimony," and has launched a campaign for the protection of families based on marriage between a man and a woman. The Vatican also has consistently criticized movements in Italy and other countries that call for granting legal rights to unmarried couples.

Last year, the Pontifical Council for the Family issued a document in which it said that the traditional family has never been so threatened as in today's world.

On Thursday, the Pope called for unity among Christian denominations to fight same-sex marriage. (story)

  • INTERVIEW WITH MORGAN CAREY

Korean Reggae artist Skull has been described by DJ Bobcat as, "Incredible, he defines what Hip Hop Culture is all about!" Mariah Carey said of his debut single, Boom Di Boom Di, "The song is really hot!" So who is Skull? Rashmi Shastri spoke to YG Label Exec and Mariah's brother, Morgan Carey to find out more about the new sensation who's bringing the heat in 07.

How did you become involved with the music industry?
I was trying to help my sister, Mariah Carey, break through at the beginning and get her into the game. A good friend of mine, Gavin Christopher, cut her first demo and I later hired Ben Marguiles to work with her. They went on to write a number of the hits on her first album together. I actually walked her by the hand up to Seymour Stein's office at Sire with that demo. Back then I knew a lot of industry people from having worked in the clubs so I played her stuff for anybody I knew who would listen; Billy Idol, Nona Hendryx, Tina B, The System, etc. Not long after, Mariah and Tommy (Mottola) got together and it went where it went.
I never really had any interest in working in music, it just kind of happened, I was engaged to this woman, Kiyomi who wanted to choreograph so I tried to make it happen for her, started created this Boy Group called Quo, we groomed them for about 8 months and then signed them to Michael Jackson's record company. The group was great but it fell by the wayside for reasons that the people in the know are privy to. I had several other heartbreaks working in artist development and got out with a bad taste in my mouth. I've always looked at that period as my formal education. YG's passion for music brought me back into the business.

    Tell me about YG Entertainment.
I had a friend Jason Roberts who had mixed YG Entertainment's (a record label in Korea) records for many years and he'd been telling me about the owner, Hyun Suk (everybody calls him YG) how he was somebody I'd really hit it off with, and if I went to Korea we should meet. I went to Seoul about a year ago for a wedding, emailed YG and introduced myself. I got to my hotel in Seoul and there was a Corniche Limo waiting for me. I was whisked off to ND, one of YG's Hip Hop clubs (he owns like ten in Seoul, and restaurants in Toronto).
When I got to the club, I randomly ran into one of my sister's dancers and I knew I was right where God meant me to be. YG and I speak two different languages but both prize loyalty, honesty and are passionate about art. We vibed, and the rest is about to be history, World History... watch!

When were you told about Skull?
When I got back to the States there was a huge box of CDs and other products waiting for me. At first I was kind of like, "Yeah right" but then, I sat down for the better part of a whole weekend and listened to everything. The Asian market is very different, and while YG has some very successful, talented artists, there wasn't much that was really tailored for this market. Skull was part of this Reggae group, and he really stood out. "Star" was written all over his voice and his image was on fire. I got curious.

When did you decide to become involved with Skull?
YG and I had a series of conversations, he knew that I was very taken with Skull and YG was very clear about his dream of making it happen in the States. At that time I was in no way interested in working in music, I was developing several film and television properties and still was soured on my experiences.
YG invited me to Tokyo for one of the shows on their world tour. Skull's group was the warm up band, and they killed it for like 10,000 fans, who, couldn't understand a word of Korean, didn't know these guys, but with in minutes the girls were throwing their panties. Skull's vibe before and after the show was surreal, in a very approachable way though. He's very spiritual, and has a sincerity and air of peace about him, which really strikes you.

Tell me about the K-Town project.
I told YG that Skull would be perfect for a part in our movie, K-Town. Mariah (Carey) will be playing a part in it, and I thought it would be a great way to introduce YG Entertainment to the U.S. My plan is to release the soundtrack through YG Entertainment, and have a few tracks from YG artists. It's an action driven drama with cross-cultural dilemmas at its core. I can't really say anymore, you'll just have to see it when it comes out.

Do any particular things about Skull stand out to you?
The first time I saw him in Japan was when he was sitting in the lobby of the hotel meditating. You know, generally if I saw someone meditating in public I'd be like, "give me a break" but he was just doing his thing. There was also a time we were at a music convention and they double booked the hall with some rock artists so their audience was still inside with the hip hop audience waiting outside so everyone was ready to fight and wanted to see somebody they knew. Skull got up on stage and some these kids were like "where you from, chink" but by the second chorus, hands were in the air and heads were bopping.
Afterwards he sung No Woman No Cry acappella, you could have heard a pin drop. Afterwards he said to the audience, "I'm so happy to be here, and I really want to be your friend." I couldn't believe it; this hard-core hip-hop audience ate it up! There's so much haterism in the music business but he can win over any crowd and that's because he's that authentic.

Where did Skull get the idea for Boom Di Boom Di?
It was originally written and released in Korean by Skull and then Mystic rewrote the lyrics in English. Skull's been in the States for about four months now and he's picking up the language real well.

Has MySpace been useful so far?
Yes, Myspace is THE global phenomenon of the day! They are truly an empowering voice for the independent artist. Myspace has really embraced Skull, he was a featured artist, and has been fortunate enough to be prominently featured on www.myspace.com/dj which features all the top DJs from around the world.

What are you working on with him now?
We are launching the animated ringtone in January and then, in keeping with our philosophy of exploiting the mobile space, we'll be dropping Boom Di Boom Di video, also by the same animators who brought you, Creed, Bullets, Mech Warriors and the Lara Croft game.

What will be different about the way Skull is marketed from other Asian artists?
When an Asian artist is promoted in the States they are normally presented to the Asian demographic. From day one I wanted Skull to be seen as a global phenomenon and not just a Korean or Asian artist. There's a big Asian artist who wanted to collaborate with Skull but I told them no because I don't want the public's perception to be that he's just another Asian artist. He's an incredible talent, has integrity and a raw sex appeal that resonates across the board.
There has never been an Asian artist in history to cross the cultural divide and speak to all people. I believe that Skull will be that artist. I truly count myself blessed to be working with an artist and for that matter, a team with this level of talent, work ethic, commitment, and dedication. I truly am happy to get out of bed every morning to go to work.

  • I Feel Beautiful. | Written by: P.A. Jervis, Jr.

    I am feeling beautiful

After a night of chaos, rocks and pain.
    I felt worthless
But know now that I was the one making someone feel
    Down and dirty..
        worthless.

I feel so bad for being this way and now looking to change my life and love the one.

  • Sorry. | Written by: Patrick Jervis, Jr.

    Dearest Friend and Love,

I am sorry that I have spent so much time with you and I have made you unhappy.
I am sorry that I have taken and taken and taken from you and not realized it.
I am sorry that I was unable to give you what you wanted from the beginning.

I really do apologize for not being the perfect guy that you were looking for.
I am sorry that I didn't give you everything that you needed.
This time I don't feel like it's my fault. I don't feel like I am doing anything wrong. I thought that I was making you happy.
It seems that it's time to end the great thing that we started because I must have worn out my welcome.

I must have made a mistake somewhere down the line somewhere cos you no longer want me
You no longer need me. You longer have the same urge that you once expressed.

Thanks for the journey and I just want you to know that I am going try to hold on.

But as soon as I cry a tear. I will cut my wrist so that my tears run just like the blood from my wrists.
Just letting you know I hope you have a happier life after me.

    Sincerely,
    Your Lost Friend.

  • Gay Rights Group Meets Gay Marriage Foes Head On

(Springfield, Massachusetts) Supporters of a proposed amendment to the Massachusetts constitution to end same-sex marriage in the state are being warned they won't have a platform all to themselves.

The warning comes after a group demanding the proposed amendment tried to stage a weekend rally on the steps of the Springfield city hall.

Members of a local chapter of VoteOnMarriage gathered on the steps.  Some of the protestors carried placards reading "Let the People Vote" and leaders of the  Pioneer Valley Faith Action Committee were getting ready to address the crowd when gay rights advocates marched up the steps.

About 100 members of MassEquality shouting "Bigots go home" faced off with the anti-marriage demonstrators.

One of the Equality leaders shouted through a bullhorn "Pray! You'll need it. Your cause will be defeated."

Police quickly arrived at the scene and separated the two demonstrations.

MassEquality produced a permit for the demonstration.  But, the VoteOnMarriage protestors, despite a large campaign to promote their event, did not have a permit.

Eqaulity spokesperson Don Henneberger said that as soon as it learned of the anti-gay protest it checked to see if a permit had been issued.  When it wasn't Henneberger said his group applied and was granted a permit.

Police dispersed the gay marriage foes.  They regrouped across the street at a park in front of a manger scene and held a prayer rally but were drowned out by the gay protest as "Bigots go home!" was shouted at them through the bullhorn.

MassEquality said it will counter future anti-gay rallies with a similar show of force.

Last month lawmakers refused to vote on the proposed amendment. The Legislature meeting in a special joint session called a Constitutional Convention recessed until January 2, without taking a vote. (story

January 2 is the final day in the current session and it is expected no vote will be held, effectively killing the measure.

Gov. Mitt Romney has asked the state's highest court for an order placing a proposed amendment that would ban same-sex marriage on the ballot without the approval of the legislature.

The case will be heard by the full Supreme Judicial Court later this month.

Unless Romney is able to convince the court to force the legislature to act the proposed amendment is likely dead.

    Dear Sweetness,

I've often dreamt of a love like ours.
      ..so sweet
        ..so kind

The kind that gives me chills just thinking about it.
The kind that makes you tingle when you think about that person and how they make you feel
The kind of love that inspires one to do right and be a better person.
to give you all that I have.

The sweeter love that makes you whisper sweet thoughts into the
air of common society where no one is paying attention but you are the only one that knows the same feeling
You make me feel alive, you make me joyous.

    Toe curling action
      Sweet passion love
With groans and moans of passion.

I no longer have to dream cos you are a dream come true.

  • Sweet.
